MACBETH ACT V ACTIVE READING NOTES

-a doctor and "waiting-gentlewoman" are watching Lady Macbeth, who has been asleep since the moment Macbeth left to fight the battle against Macduff
-Lady Macbeth has been demonstrating weird behavior such as sleepwalking and writing letters in her sleep
-the gentlewoman is hesitant to tell the doctor what she heard Lady Macbeth say in her sleep. She is fearful of what will happen if she tells him (get in trouble)
-Lady Macbeth appears asleep but her eyes are wide open
-Lady Macbeth is now afraid of darkness and the dark"she has light by her continually; 'tis her command."
-she continually rubs her hands and thinks she sees a bloodstain that won't come off
-" Out, damned spot! out, I say!--One: two: why, then, 'tis time to do't.--Hell is murky!--Fie, my lord, fie! a soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account?--Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him."
-the doctor tells the gentle waiting lady to keep a close eye on Lady Macbeth to make sure she doesn't harm herself
-Menteith, Caithness, Angus, Lennox, and other soldiers begin their march
-Slap in the face!! "The devil damn thee black, thou cream-faced loon!"
-a servant approaches Macbeth and tells him that the English soldiers are approaching from near sight
-Macbeth is furious and flustered
-Macbeth requests Seyton and his armor ****SATAN???
-Macbeth wants the doctor to help Lady Macbeth of what "weighs upon (her) heart"
-the doctor says that the only way she can be fixed/cured is by herself and her own strength
-Macbeth doesn't like the doctors reply and ridicules medicine and its constituents
****"I will not be afraid of death and bane, Till Birnam forest come to Dunsinane."
-the soldiers arrive at the forest of Birnam
-Malcolm orders the soldiers to gather branches to camouflage/hide in
-Macbeth is more than confident that he is going to be safe and successful/victorious in the battle
**"What is that noise?"/ "It is the cry of women, my good lord"
-Lady Macbeth dies from the illness
-a messenger tells Macbeth that as the soldiers came swarming in, he saw the forest move (it was the movement of the camouflaged men)
-Macbeth rudely threatens to hang the messenger because he thinks he is lying about the forest moving
-preparing to attack
-encounter between Macbeth and Young Siward
-Young Siward asks Macbeth his name
-Macbeth acts like an ass; Siward hates him
-they fight/battle and it results in Macbeth killing Young Siward
-Macbeth avoids fighting with Macduff because he knows that killing his family wasn't a good thing to do
-Macduff approaches Macbeth
-the men fight
-Ross tells Siward that his son (Young Siward) is dead (killed by Macbeth)
-Macduff enters holding the  head of Macbeth
-resolution.... the end
-Bravo, Shakepeare, bravo.
